Modified V Hull with longitudinal strake lines.

Built to CE Category B, ABYC and USCG standards.

Hull details

The hull is a modified V, with fine sections forward, starting with 66.5 degrees, reducing to 22 degrees at the mid-ship area and flattening gradually to 15 degrees at the transom. The sections are slightly convex and the keel area is rounded rather than sharp to reduce the slam and at the same time to improve the lift. It is a common knowledge that rounded sections forward and mid-ship will cushion the impact more efficiently than a sharp V and improve the lift at the same time.

The chine width and the width of the spray rails are kept low forward, again to reduce the amount of impact area in a seaway and lower the effect of vertical accelerations. Since the hull is a typical lobster boat hull above the chine with a high amount of flare to keep the spray off the deck, there is no need to go to a wider chine and spray rails forward. It is enough to have a sufficient width to help with the upper flare to keep the spray to a minimum. The chine width reaches its maximum towards the transom, parallel to the flattening of the V to improve the lift, raise the transom and so to lower the wetted surface at higher speeds. A lower degree of dead-rise at the transom creates more dynamic stability and at the same time, prevents the boat from heeling to much inward when in a sharp turn.

The width and the location of the outward spray-rails are positioned to shape the planning surface into a high aspect ratio. This means, the spray rails shape the planing surface so, that its center of pressure does not move too far aft, which frequently causes small craft to become unstable.

The shape of the hull is capable of speeds beyond 40 knots, but due to the lower efficiency of the conventional shaft and propellers (frictional losses at those appendages), the estimated max. velocity should be around 30+ knots, powered with twin 480 HP Yanmar diesels.
